A morphological examination was done on the tapeworm Progynotaenia odhneri Nybelin, 1914, coming from Cuba (our original material) and Iceland (J. G. Baer's material). Both the cestodes differ in the characters that in the authors' view may differentiate subspecies. It is suggested to separate European P. odhneri odhneri Nybelin, 1914 from American P. odhneri americana Webster, 1951 comb. n., characterized by the different size of rostellar hooks, the armature of cirrus and the position of testes. Interestingly, hooks of both subspecies lying on the dorsal or ventral side were remarkably longer than those lying on lateral margins of rostellum.
