ABSTRACT

Acanthellae and cystacanths of four acanthocephalan species, Aspersentis megarhynchus (Linstow, 1892), Corynosoma hamanni (Linstow, 1892), C. pseudohamanni Zdzitowiecki, 1984 and C. bullosum (Linstow, 1892), were found in demersal amphipods caught in Admiralty Bay (the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica). Parasites have been collected from eight host species of 12 examined, namely Bovallia gigantea, Prostebbingia brevicornis, Gondogeneia antarctica, Cheirimedon femoratus, Hippomedon kergueleni, Orchomenella rotundifrons, Waldeckia obesa and Jassa ingens. Acanthocephala were not found in Eurymera monticulosa, Abyssorchomene plebs, Methalimedon nordenskjoeldi and Heterophoxus videns. All four acanthocephalan species are briefly described and figured.
